Eenadu (ఈనాడు) ePaper app for iPad

Satish Pasupunuri has come up with an upgraded version of his earlier epaper app for Eenadu newspaper. Now the latest version is for iPad for reading Eenadu ఈనాడు  e-paper.

Application name and the instructions are given to install the same on your iPad.

The earlier version that I mentioned in my post on 6th Feb 2012 was for iPhone, iPod.

Now you can keep track of happenings back home on your iPad too. The application works similar to Eenadu web pdf copies version that I posted few days ago. You can increase or decrease the size of the pdf copy and the resolution is simply great.

At this point in time, this app is free. Go ahead and download it from Apple Appstore asap before it becomes a paid app.

Please download and leave some good comments on the app store for all the hard work that Satish is doing.

Please share with readers if you have any info on any other Indian Newspaper e-paper apps. Thanks.

NRE Deposit Rates

Now, as I write this blog, the interest rates on NRE deposits are extremely good with some of the banks like - HDFC, IDBI, ICICI Bank etc., paying as much as 9.50% per annum. Both principal amount as well as the interest earned can be repatriated. The interest earned is tax-free i.e., there is no Tax Deducted at Source (TDS) on these interest earnings when the bank repays you.

Reserve Bank of India (RBI) deregulated interest paid on NRE deposits in December 2011. Prior to that all the banks were paying very small rate of interest for NRE deposits. With the India Rupee depreciating to a new low, one of the steps taken by RBI to increase the inflow of remittance into India.

Just look for good low e.g., 1USD= >  51 INR or 1SGD= > 40 INR and you can safely start to place deposits in India with a bank that provides highest rate of interest. Period of deposit is a call that you have to take. But the outlook is INR is likely to appreciate. This may be an additional bonus if you want to repatriate say after one year.

Most of these forward looking banks which offer good rates also have customer friendly ways to pick up your remittances, be it in the US, or Canada or Gulf or Singapore or Hong Kong etc.

Also, one more deposit which is always not well advertised is the NRE Recurring Deposits. Worth taking a look at it if you want to build your deposit base over a period of time.

Please leave any additional information that you may have for the benefit of this blog readers. Thanks

Eenadu ఈనాడు News Paper

The best thing to happen in the current internet era is the disappearance of boundaries. Most of the time those who are away from India would like to know the happenings in our home land. While we can google for news by state or district or language, nothing like reading a newspaper.

A number of newspaper owners publish their print newspapers as e-papers. Most of them are through paid subscription. However, there is 'Eenadu' ఈనాడు the most popular newspaper in Andhra Pradesh which publishes its epaper online for free. It is so convenient, we can click on the story, which pops up as a .pdf copy, size of the display can be adjusted.

Here is the link:
