Akhilesh Yadav - the new youth icon in Indian politics

It is interesting to see how the electorate in the biggest state in India selected a new youth icon Akhilesh Yadav.

The mindsets are changing. The younger generation is voting for hope. They are hoping that youth icons like Akhilesh can make Uttar Pradesh a better place to live.

My five points for Akhilesh:

- Urbanise the villages and the towns (the mantra from Lee Kuan Yew, the ex-premier of Singapore)

- Induct educated people with clean images as ministers

- Cleanse the bureaucracy

- Have a goal to create at least 5 cities in UP to compete with modern cities like Singapore, Bangkok or Kuala Lumpur

- Last but not the least, make a determined effort to weed out corruption and corrupt people

All the best to you Akhilesh. May God be with you in making you take on a very challenging responsibility that can take you places.

  1. I think it is too early to call him an icon. I am concerned with the inclusion of a few individuals with criminal track record in his ministry. It looks like he is succumbing to political compulsions.

  2. Agree with you. After writing the blog I realised that not only did he include his arch rival Azam but also included a person with proven criminal record RajuBhaiya.

The idea is to use reverse psychology. If all of us keep calling him that he is good, youth icon, messiah etc., etc., for sure after some time he himself starts thinking that he is so and will do something good for the state of UttarPradesh.

One quick observation in this regard is that he has quickly got on the development bandwagon by asking that Metro and mono rail for all major cities in UP be taken to the next level. This is good sign. Lets be positive and give him some more time. What else can we do?

    Have a nice day.
